Is there another medical condition that causes symptoms like diabetes?
For 18 years I have had diabetes, yet I do not fit the profile. I was diagnosed at 30y/o, have NOT had good control with multiple meds. I do NOT have the expected health results such as neuropathy, retinopaty or any other indications except extremely high blood glucose levels. Even when I can get my levels down to high 100′s, I awake every morning with levels near and sometimes over 300. Is there another possible problem that presents like this, or is this really Type ll diabetes? I have been on multiple combinations of medications for years with no results.
Have you tried an extremely low carbohydrate food plan and heavy exercise?
The American Diabetes Association has some hugely bad information on good foods to eat for glucose control.
Lots of people have no neuropathy or retinopathy or other nasty problems but have elevated glucose levels for years.
I must take Metformin and insulins to keep control of my glucose. I am very insulin resistant, but require the insulin to keep the glucose down. I take the Lantus long acting and meal time boluses of Novalog.
Those of us who do not fit the profiles of either type 1 or type 2 are type 1.5
