Glucose Set Point

D and L monosaccaride isomers?
I’m a bit confused. My text has D-glucose and D-galactose configured exactly the same, except for the OH group on carbon 4. One the D-glucose, it’s on the right-hand side of the Fischer projection. On the D-galactose, it’s on the left-hand side. So, my question:
Why do we call it “D-galactose” instead of “L-glucose”?
I feel like I’ve missed a key point here. Perhaps I’ve misunderstood the whole concept of D and L isomers. Please, somebody…anybody…set me straight!!
Saccharides are L or D depending on the structure around carbon 5. If they are the same in both projections, both are the same type of isomer.
