Diabetics: Which do you think is the best glucose monitoring meter out there?

In addition, which lancing device do you think is the least painful? I actually have a problem with checking my glucose levels!!! It is much easier for me to give myself my insulin shots, rather than check my levels because no matter how low I set my lancing device, it still hurts a lot when I need to get the blood. I am thinking of changing to another type. Which would you recommend?

Thx.
I currently use the Contour by Bayer with no coding. Each time I have to use check my levels, I am reminded that I have type 1 diabetes because the pin-prick hurts me so. I might change to the avivia as you guys have glowing recommendations for it. Thx for your answers everyone.

Personally I like the one touch meters and the softclix lancing device (comes with the accu chek compact meter). I have an accu chek compact plus meter now. The accu chek compact (and compact plus) both use drums instead of individual test strips like one touch. Each drum has 17 strips in it. (The drums prevent you from having to handle individual strips. If you have trouble grasping the strip to put it in the meter, then an accu chek compact (plus) might be what you want).

My drawbacks of accu chek compact (plus): The drums! Sometimes if you get errors the meter will spit out an unused strip. Once the meter spits it out, its no good. I think the only way you can waste a strip with one touch is if you dont get enough blood on it. Accu chek compact (plus) is also longer and thicker than one touch because of the drums.

The softclix pricker has 11 settings (goes up by halves..from .5 to 5.5). I don’t know why, but the softclix pricker is less painful for me than the softclix plus pricker even though they both have 11 settings. One touch prickers only have 5 settings. The only drawback I have with softclix is that the shape of the lancet is flat. With one touch the lancet is a square shape. I think one touch lancets are easier to handle.
