Blood Glucose Before Bed

blood glucose before bed
At what point ahould I contact my doctor, if my blood glucose number seems to be high upon getting out of bed?

I have been bad with checking my blood, until the last few days. This morning my reading was 171. I am taking 1000mg Metformin evry 8 hours and 10 mg every 12 hours, each day. I’m not sure what I am eating that is bad for me, but these numbers worry me. I see my doctor every 3 months and will need to have blood work (incl Hem A1C) before my next appt in Sept. I’m not sure if I should call my doctor at this time or wait. Does anyone some general suggestions that I can use to try to reduce this number? Or maybe references (books or websites)? I know I need to increase my daily exercise too, but I’m sure I’m eating the wrong kinds of foods, to affect me way into the next morning. I was diagnosed in 1999 but have forgotten much of what I learned from that long ago. I’m hoping someone can help me now – my wife is pleading for me to do SOMETHING, and I admit things are out of control. I know there are others out there who have gone through this and are better now.

If your sugar goes over 300 or AT ANY TIME YOU EXPERIENCE THE SYMPTOMS OF DKA OR SHOW KETONES OR HIGH LEVELS OF GLUCOSE IN YOUR URINE.

All diabetics should have urine test strips for glucose and ketones.

If your meter reads “HIGH”, you should call 911 IMMEDIATELY. Most meters have a cutoff around 500-600 and if a sugar level is higher than that, it will read “high”.
