Biology Questions (Key Words: Insulin, Glucagon, Hormone Regulation)?

I have a few biology questions, and I would prefer to have answers from a reliable source (if you could tell me where you got them from, that would be great!)

(1)What happens to the sugar when you eat a candy bar?

(2)What are the normal glucose levels in the blood?
—> I think it’s approx. 65-110 mg/dL but i’m not sure, so if someone could varify that, it would be great.

(3)What does your body do when it does not have any carbohydrates left to use as fuel.

The sugar in candy bars is not glucose, but is rather typically sucrose or fructose. Either way, to make a long story short, most of it ends up in the blood, and is eventually metabolized by tissues, or stored for when needed later.

Normal glucose levels vary depending on the method being used to measure them. For some methods, above 110 is considered elevated and prediabetic, and for others above 105 is considered elevated. Above about 118-120 is considered possible diabetes, and should be evaluated by your Dr.

When your body does not have any carbohydrate left for fuel, it burns fat stores, which it turns into glucose to feed the heart and brain, and then when that is gone, a condition called “wasting” sets in, where the body actually breaks down muscle and other tissues, and literally turns them into glucose to feed the brain.

I got these answers because I have a PhD in biochemistry, and I spent 12 years researching glucose metabolism.
