can you drink water before glucose test
At what week was your glucose test?

My doctors said today that I would have mine in two weeks. I’m 23w3d today:) So I’ll be in my 25th week.

So what exactly do I do? Just drink the stuff and then they take my blood? Do they take my blood before also?

Can you drink or eat before? If not, can you even just have a drink of water before, not like a whole glass or anything. But I know when I wake up in the morning I need something, even just a small sip! :)

Thanks!

My doc told me to go between 26-28 weeks so I went when I was close to my 27th, I was told to fast because food has certain carbs in it that can turn to sugars which could make the reading of the test incorrect. You can drink water though maybe not a gallon :-) but a glass is fine. I took both test the 1 hour and the 3 hour. The one hour was not so bad; I went in and drank this lemon lime sweet liquid then just waited. Once they called me back they took my blood then I was free to go. However when my doc called me a couple of days later she said my sugar was a little high and I needed to go back for the 3 hour…

This was the worst for me. I got there and I had to wait like 25 minuets because there were other people waiting then they called me back and took my blood and sent me back to the waiting room. Then they gave me my drink, I choose the orange this time and this was the worst thing I could have done because it was horrible for me made me gag. Anyways after drinking it I had to wait 1 hour, and during that hour I was sick from the sugary drink, my stomach was all messed up and right before the hour was up I felt really jittery almost like I was having a sugar attach. They called me back for my 1st blood drawing (since the drink) and I told the lady how I was feeling and she told me that there was a room if I wanted to lay down and sleep for a while. I took her up on the idea because I was having a horrible crashing feeling so I went to the room and fell a sleep the whole hour. They woke me up and did my 2nd blood drawing and then I asked the lady if I can go to my car for a while but they wouldn’t let me leave so I just went to the waiting room and had to wait another hour. Finally it came and they poked me for the last time and then I was free to go. It was the most horrible experience ever for me anyway. I got there at 8:30 and didn’t get out until about 12:30.

Luckily after all that my doc called me a few days later and said I was fine…Yea no G/D!!!

Unfortunatly its one of thoes things that totally suck but we all have to go through it. Good Luck and hopefully you will only have to do it once.
