Normal Range For Glucose Test During Pregnancy

Glucose Levels During Pregnancy?
I had the typical glucose test at my doctors office last week. I hadn’t eaten anything or drank anything before going because my appointment was so early in the morning. They said that with the one hour test my level was at 145 and are now having me go to the hospital for the 3 hour glucose tolerance test to see if I have developed Gestational Diabetes. I was wondering what is the normal range or the average range for a pregnant woman with the one hour test? Also how many of you had a level around the same and indeed had GD? And finally what are the statistics on having GD diagnosed after having an initial elevated level versus having an elevated level and not having GD? Thanks for your help ladies. Oh yeah, I have looked into the risk factors online, and I do fall into some of the categories, such as hispanic, over 25 and pregnant, and overweight when conceived. This is my fifth child and I have never had an elevated level before
Many women fail the first screening and go on to pass the longer test. You’re supposed to do it fasting as you did for the most accurate result. 145 isn’t all that high for 1 hour later, so I suspect they’re just checking to make sure that your blood sugar is ok by doing the full test. I don’t know how much glucose they made you drink, so it’s a bit hard to determine the acceptable levels, but on one web page I found:
“A person with normal tolerance has a blood glucose level below 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL) 2 hours after drinking the glucose solution.”
You had 145 after just 1 hour, so this sound like you may only be borderline anyway. Good luck with the follow up test. I failed the first one and passed the second one just fine, so try not to worry.
