One Touch Science: Regulating Glucose Levels In The Blood
Diabetes, known scientifically as diabetes mellitus, is a disease that has one of the highest mortality rates. It prevents the body from producing insulin which helps convert glucose into energy. They have also created One Touch test strips that can make testing for blood sugar and glucose levels easy for patients suffering from diabetes. These One Touch strips only require a small amount of blood from the patient in order to generate blood glucose level results. The meter is designed to read results in as little as fifteen seconds, and the results are fairly accurate up to 20% of the nominal values depending on room conditions. One Touch test strips are scientifically tested to provide accurate glucose count. Glucose and oxygen react in the presence of glucose oxidase, producing gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide. This amount of hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the dyes in the test strips in a reaction that is mediated by peroxidase producing a blue color from the dyes. The intensity of this blue color is directly proportional to the glucose concentration in the blood sample. The more distinct the blue hue is, the higher the amount of glucose is found in the sample.
