slightly elevated glucose levels
Has anyone ever had a high glucose reading during pregnacy?

I had my 28 week glucose test yesterday (even though im actually 30 weeks) I got a call today saying my glucose level was”slightly” elevated. Now I have to go to the hospital for a fasting glucose test next week although they don’t seem to concerned at my doctors office. They told me to get it done by early next week. What are the chances I actually have gestational diabetes or just an odd read on the test? Has anyone else ever had a high glucose read and then it turned out to be fine? The didn’t tell me to change anything for the next week and there was no rush how concerned should I be?

It is quite common for women to have elevated numbers with their 1 hour glucose tolerance test. All this indicates is that a 3 hour fasting glucose tolerance test is warranted. Most women who have elevated numbers with their 1 hour test do go on to have normal levels with their 3 hour test. Only about 5% of women develop Gestational Diabetes. Your chances of developing Gestational Diabetes are small. Even if you do develop Gestational Diabetes, it is possible to manage it with a change in diet and regular blood testing. I had Gestational Diabetes with my 4th pregnancy. It was a challenge to eat right and test my blood 4 times a day, but it really wasn’t too bad considering it was helping me and my baby to stay as healthy as possible. No reason to be concerned that you need the 3 hour test, it’s just routine.
