Typical Glucose Levels

Can non-diabetics have Dawn Syndrome?
Today I woke up with a blood glucose level of 8mmol/L (typical postprandial) This was 12 hours after my last meal.
What is the cause of this? Do I need to address it?
Non-diabetics and diabetics alike can experience ‘Dawn Phenomenon.’ That being said, non-diabetics are able to produce enough insulin to counteract the surge of glucose the liver releases in the morning.
If you are insulin resistant, insulin deficient or both, your pancreas won’t be able to cover the glucose load.
In other words, there’s no reason why a truly non-diabetic person, even a non-diabetic person suffering from DP, should have blood sugar that high in the morning.
Yes, you should absolutely address it. A doctor can provide you a formal diagnosis, in case you are actually diabetic, and offer you advice and treatment. Catching diabetes early makes all the difference. Best of luck!
